Corps du texte
In every village people are afraid. Afraid of what? Afraid of many things. People are afraid of evil spirits. When darkness descends they are afraid of the Great Ghost and the Sea Ghost. They are afraid of the jinn which people raise in their homes. They are afraid of spirits which bring sickness or which disturb around the house.
Also, there are people who fear war. They fear the enemy who will come and disturb their country and harm them. It will be difficult to find food. Many people would be beaten, many shot and killed. We must go into hiding. Yes, we are troubled about our enemies.
Many are afraid of sickness. They don't want to feel pain. Perhaps there is no one to help them at home. If they are very poor, how will they buy medicine? Perhaps they are afraid they will not get well.
Others are afraid of loneliness. Perhaps it is that a wife still loves her husband but he wants to leave her. Others are afraid their friends won't stick by them. Of course no one wants their friends or husband or wife to leave them alone. They fear loneliness living by themselves.
Then, too, there are people who fear old age. If they become sick, who will help them and how will they make a living? Old people have many troubles. There are many dangers physically. They can't do this, and they can't do that.
There are many people who fear death and the grave. They are afraid to stand before God because of their sins. They fear the Judgment Day. They fear the torment of Hell's fire.
Who can keep us from fear? The prophets can not help us, because they are all dead. But God sent Christ to this world that He might die to bear our sin and our sorrows, and He lived again that He might help us now. The Bible says that "He (Jesus) was wounded for our sins" (Isa. 53:5). "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows" (v.4).
Because He has borne our sins there is no need for us to be afraid of death. God has promised that the person who trusts Jesus will go to Heaven when he dies and will never go to Hell. At the Judgment Day we will be found cleansed from our sins.
Solomon said, "There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." This friend is none other than Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "See, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." If we have faith in Christ we will not be afraid of loneliness, and we will not be afraid of war, because He is with us and cares for us all of the time.
When Jesus was on earth He cast out many evil spirits which possessed people until they said, "What is this? With authority He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey Him." (Mark 1:27) If we believe in Jesus, ghosts and evil spirits cannot bother us.
Jesus Christ cares for us and casts out all fear. Come to Him and receive Him as your Saviour and Helper.
