In the Old Testament, according to Moses' law, the High Priest made the sacrifices for the sins of all the people. When he did this they had their sins forgiven, and God heard the High Priest's prayer at that time. But this was for old times; today it is impossible. It was before our Lord Jesus Christ. The High Priest showed that Christ would be coming. The High Priest in olden times always died, but our Lord Jesus Christ lives forever.
He only is our High Priest. Christ is the High Priest by testament. The other priests were without testaments. "For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by Him that said unto Him, 'The Lord swore and will not repent, "Thou art a Priest forever after the order of Melchisedec"': by so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament" (Heb .7:21-22). There were many priests, but they all died. But Christ is living forever because His priesthood does not change. "Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them" (Heb.7:25). For this reason those who hear this saying should come to Jesus. He alone can save you. Christ is living forever. For this reason He is able to make you, too, live forever. Our Lord Jesus Christ says this in His Bible, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hands. My Father, which gave them to Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand" (John 10:28-29).
Because Christ loves you, He calls you to come to Him. "Come unto Me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart--and you shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light." (Matt.11:28-30). When He calls, we must hear and go to Him and take salvation.
"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Heb.4:14,16).
"For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him" (John 1:17-18).
