My friend, I will tell you about two trees, a bee-tree, and a parasite tree, and you listen to what I say.
A parasite cannot grow by itself, but grows on another tree. It grows on a big tree. Its roots grow deep into the tree and it gets big. After it grows, it hurts the big tree. If a man who owns this big tree wants the tree to live for his beehive, he will have to cut down the parasite tree. If the man does not cut down the parasite tree, the big tree will die. The reason it dies is because the parasite sent its roots into the tree and the worms get into the tree. After this happens, the good tree dies. It is called a parasite because it can destroy another tree.
My friend, those who have a good mind, do not forget this story. This example is for us. This parasite is little, but it can destroy a big tree. Sin is like this. It comes as a little thing in man, and it can destroy the good man. As the worms go into the tree with the roots of the parasite, so Satan comes into a man's heart with sin, and can destroy that good man. My friend, even so the big tree cannot keep himself. It cannot take the parasites off by itself, but the husbandman is able to take the parasites off for his bees' sake. So man cannot cleanse himself from sin, but God is able to give forgiveness from heaven. As the man keeps the tree from dying for his beehive's sake, so God keeps men who believe on His Son for His Son's sake, and for Christ's name's sake.
About this, Isaiah says, "Come now and let us reason together, says the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18).
My friend, our God sent His Son down from heaven to earth so that by believing in Him we are made clean and given everlasting life. "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin." (I John 1:7). As I told you before, the tree cannot keep itself from dying, but the husbandman is able to keep that tree for his beehive's sake. So we cannot cleanse ourselves from sin. Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, can make us clean. Because you believe on Jesus Christ, He will cleanse you from all sin. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord." (Rom. 6:23)
