It was evening. All was quiet on the hillside where Jesus was praying. He was alone. The crowds of people who had been with Him there all day had gone to their homes. His disciples had left also. They were rowing a boat across the lake of Galilee. Jesus prayed to His Father in heaven. He prayed for the people. He prayed for His disciples also. (Pause)
Suddenly a great wind began to blow. Out on the lake the storm tossed the boat, and large waves began to break into it. The disciples rowed hard against the wind, but in the fourth watch of the night, late at night, they were still in the midst of the rough sea. Jesus knew of their trouble. He felt their distress. Through the wind and storm He came to them. Even the sea could not keep Him from them. He came to them walking upon the water, and when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It is a Spirit," and they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, "Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid." Peter, one of the disciples, answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water!" And Jesus said, "Come," and Peter got out of the boat, and began to walk toward Jesus. But when He saw the strength of the wind and waves, he was afraid, and he began to sink. (pause) "Lord, save me!" he cried.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand and caught him, and said unto him - "Oh, one of small faith, why did you not trust Me?" When Jesus and Peter got into the boat, the wind and the storm stopped. Then the disciples worshipped Jesus and said, "Truly, You are the Son of God." Very soon the boat came to the harbor on the other side of the sea.
Yes, Jesus is God. He is God, the Son. He is the One Whom the Father in heaven sent into the world. Jesus came to save us out of the storms of fear and evil. He came to enter into the boat with us, to enter into our lives. Today, now, Jesus speaks to you. He says, "Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid." Will you turn to Him and put all your trust in Him alone? He alone is mighty. He alone can save. Other gods have power only to make you fear. Jesus is the true One. He loves you. Let Him receive your worship and trust.
