Today, I'll share what I believe as a follower of the One True God. The Bible tells a detailed story of how God created everything and made humans to share in His Community of Love. However, the first humans chose their own desires over God's purpose, causing all creation to fall into chaos. Sin and death entered the world, distorting harmony, love, peace, and fullness of life.
God, being a Community of Love, could not leave creation in chaos. He decided to enter our broken world to fix it. Uniquely, God became a man, taking on human flesh. The Beloved Son of God, the Second Person in the Community of the One True God, was sent by the Father and born as Jesus Christ, our Lord.
By taking on human flesh, God showed He hadn't given up on creation. He wanted to redeem it from chaos, sin, and death, restoring it to new glory in Himself. By becoming man in Jesus Christ, God combined His divinity with our humanity, allowing us to be His children and fulfill His original purpose. We achieve the goal of becoming one with Him and experiencing fullness of life.
In Jesus Christ, God fully revealed Himself. Studying Jesus' actions and teachings is learning about God. John, a disciple of Jesus, wrote that he could tell people about God because he had seen, heard, and touched Him (1 John 1:1). Jesus set forth the restoration of creation through His death and resurrection. God Himself died as a consequence of our sins. The biggest sin of humanity was killing God when He came to us. But by Jesus' death, we sinners have the opportunity for new and abundant life in God.
The One True God is self-sacrificing. God died and brought new life to creation through His resurrection. This is the central story of the Bible.
Let me summarize the basic principles of my faith as a Christian:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made. Jesus Christ is fully God, just as the Father is fully God.
For our salvation, the Son of God came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. "Incarnate" means God took on human flesh and was born as a man.
For our sake, Jesus, the Son of God, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, suffered death, was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
This is my faith, the Christian faith, the Creed of God's Church throughout the ages, known as the Nicene Creed. It depicts who the One True God is, bringing hope and life to our broken world.
