Title ideas:Jesus’ first miracle.Jesus attends a wedding.Jesus helps a wedding celebration to continue without shame [with joy].
Jesus first called four men to become his disciples. (Their names were Philip, Nathanael, Andrew and Simon called Peter.) [Andrew and Peter were brothers.]
A few days later, a family invited Mary [Jesus’ mother] , Jesus and his disciples to attend a wedding [held] at a village called Cana.
While the guests at the wedding were eating a meal, they drank all the wine [until none was left].
[Jesus’ mother,] Mary, said to him quietly, “The family has no more wine to serve to their guests. Can you, please, do something to help them?”
Jesus replied Mary, “Let us not tell anyone what I am going to do! Today is not the right time for me [to show/reveal that I am the Messiah]!”
So his mother quietly said to the [wedding / domestic] servants, “Do whatever Jesus is going to tell you to do!”
The family [hosting the wedding] had six big [stone, water] jars that were empty. Each jar could hold about 70 or 100 liters.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill up these stone jars with water!”So, they filled them up to their brim [top].[As they did so, the water became wine.]
Next, Jesus said to a servant, “Dip [take] some liquid [wine] from a jar and carry [bring] it to the man in charge over the feast [food and drink]!”The servant did as Jesus said.
When the man in charge tasted the wine, he did not know where the wine had come from. But the servants knew [that it had come from water].
So the man in charge spoke with the bridegroom [new husband] and said, “Other people serve their best wine first, and after everyone has drunk some, they serve cheaper [less tasty] wine!
“But you! You have served the best wine now [after everyone has drunk cheaper wine]!”
This was the first miracle that Jesus did [as recorded by John]. This showed his power [glory] to his disciples, and they believed in him.
After the wedding in Cana, Jesus, his disciples and [his mother] Mary left for another town [Capernaum] where they stayed for several days.
