Isi Naskah

I want to tell you another very wonderful story of David. I know you will like it very much.

You remember that David's country was called Israel. This country had a king called Saul. Saul had to fight against a wicked king of the Philistines. Now in the Philistine army there was a giant almost ten feet tall. That's really tall, isn't it? This man's name was Goliath. He wore a great helmet of iron and a heavy suit of armor. He wasn't afraid of anything. One day this giant swaggered out of his camp and called in a loud voice, "You fraidy cats, you, you're afraid to do anything. What are you doing? Hurry up and choose a man to come over here and fight with me. If he wins, we will be your servants, but if I win - Ha! Ha! Then you will serve me."

But this man was so tall and big and so fierce that no one dared fight him. King Saul and his army were so scared that they were afraid to move. What do you think? I think they must have forgotten to pray or they wouldn't have been so frightened.

In Saul's army there were three brothers of David. One day his father said to David, "You run to the army to your brothers. Take them something to eat and find out how they are." David was very happy! Perhaps he jumped up in the air. Do you do that when you are happy?

Very early in the morning, David found someone to care for his sheep and very quickly went right into the camp. He got there just when the two armies were preparing to fight. And just then, Goliath came out made fun of the Israelites. David heard this and saw how afraid the Israelite soldiers were. He said, "Who is this man that laughs at the armies of God? He ought not to do that. Why doesn't someone go out and kill him? If none of you will go I will go."

But King Saul said, "You are just a small boy! You cannot fight him--he has been a soldier for a long time. And David's brothers laughed at him and said he was conceited. But David answered them and said, "I know I am just a little shepherd boy, but I believe in God! He will help me and won't let Goliath harm me."

Finally, Saul told David he could. He wanted him to put on a heavy piece of armor. But David said, "I am not used to that kind of thing. I can't use that." So he picked up the sling he was used to using every day, and five smooth stones, and went out to meet Goliath. Think what a sight that must have been---such a big man dressed in such heavy armor and such a small boy without anything at all. When Goliath saw him he was very, very angry, and shouted, "What do you thing I am, a dog, that you come to me with a stick? You come to me and I will give you to the birds to eat."

But David answered him, "You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of the armies of Israel! He will help me to kill you and give your head to the birds to eat, so that people may know that there is a true God."

Then David ran forward and threw a stone and --plunk--it hit Goliath right in the middle of his forehead, and down he fell. David then cut off his head.

The armies of the Israelites were very happy, but the Philistines couldn't run fast enough.

This is a fine story, but better than that, is the fact that you have a part in this story! Yes, truly. You know, God saved David from the sword of Goliath because David trusted in God and believed Him. God wants to help you be saved from something worse than that. It is sin, and the Devil. If you believe Him and trust Him, He will save you. Jesus died for your sins so that God can save you. If you ask Him, He can do that right now. Do you want to?
