Notes about the recording

This Malawian Chichewa according to P. Vumisa, 2001 (DJ) I'll write the language Chichewa: Malawi or Chichewa (Malawi). The Bible Society of Malawi staff who are in Cape Town at present say that Nvania is the southern dialect and Chewa is the Central dialect of the same language. When the original Bible was translated, it was based on the Nyanja dialect, although it is now labeled Chewa, because that is what ex-Presldent Hastings Banda decreed should be the name of the whole language. The new translation is based on the central dialect. As with the languages in SA, the people understand the language, even if they distinguish certain words and forms which they do not use, but which are typical of another dialect. (Dr E. Hermanson)
