Other information: The CIIL lists this as an endangered language. A language shift is taking place to Malayalam in Kerala and Kannada in Tamil Nadu. It is unknown how many still speak Kurichiya as their mother tongue. The Kurichian people are in Kerala and are divided into groups : Jati Kurchian or Kurichain of Wynad, Kunnam Kurichian, Paatuiri Kurichian and Anchilla Kurichian. These groups differ from one another at social, territorial and religious levels.
