As I watch the news and see the ongoing tragedy unfold of refugees everywhere, it occurs to me that it is an amazing God given opportunity for us His children and disciples.
Jesus said that people will know that we are His disciples when we love one another. Would an outsider looking on say that you love your brothers and sisters in Christ? If not, you cannot hope to take advantage of this opportunity. Let us forgive, get rid of all bitterness, and love our spiritual family (and physical family too of course).
The next step is to start reaching out to others in friendship - genuine friendship, not as a trophy hunter. International teams (www.iteams.org.au/sydney-refugee-team) are looking for volunteers in Sydney and I'm sure there are other organisations doing the same. They can train you and give you opportunities if you don't know how to start.
GRN has audio and audio visual materials in many of the languages the refugees speak. Download our 5fish app onto your phone (www.5fish.mobi) and learn how to use it. You will be able to provide a Gospel message in their mother tongue within a minute and be able to show them how to put it on their phone.
You can also download our messages onto your computer from our уебсайт and burn them onto a CD or DVD. Or contact us and we'll send them to you in the post.
Our teams in Europe have amazing opportunities right now. Our French team is training local churches in reaching out into refugee camps.
We are working with refugees and giving resources to help others working with refugees throughout Europe. Our 5fish mobile phone app is great as people can download the story of Jesus onto their phones and listen at their leisure.
Pray for the refugees now in Europe. Pray that they would come to know Christ - through dreams and visions, European Christians reaching out to them, and through God's word including GRN materials.
Christian refugees are being persecuted by the other refugees. One young Christian man was murdered in a camp in France recently. Others have been beaten and robbed.
Pray for Christians in Europe to see the situation as a God given opportunity and to take it with both hands. Pray for their love for each other and for the refugees, for boldness, and that they'd be able to make friends and be effective ambassadors for Christ.
Our God has not given us a spirit of fear. He has made us His ambassadors and calls us to make disciples of Christ. Let us respond to the current situation prayerfully, determined to make the most of the opportunities that present. Let us love our own family (physical and spiritual) and those looking for refuge.
Revelation 5:9 assures us that Jesus ransomed for God, with His own blood spilled as He was slaughtered, saints from every tribe and language and people and nation. So we know that the situation is far from hopeless. We will spend eternity with some of these refugees. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have been a part of helping them get there!
