The quote of the week for me was from one of our recordists who recently returned from a recording trip.
"As expected, nothing went as expected."
That sums up so much of our work in GRN. Particularly for our field staff, nothing ever goes exactly to plan. On this particular trip, for example, our recordist booked a ticket with the airline for one particular leg of the journey, only to find that the airline had not operated on that route for years! So, as usual, you switch to an alternate plan, or just make it up as you go along.
But field operations are not the only place that plans go awry.
A recent glitch in one of our storage servers in Australia lost hundreds of gigabytes of data. And one of the backup drives also died, so the end result was some significant data loss in a few areas. Fortunately, none of our precious audio files were effected. Also fortunately, we have some extra volunteers in to help restore some of the critical data. But it meant some other work plans were delayed for a few weeks.
It's just as well we can trust the Lord with our plans - both those that work, and those that don't.
"A person plans his course, but the Lord directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9
