Muslims Turn to Christ in Liberia

This lady received Christ during our cassette outreach.
The old Muslim man never imagined his life would be turned upside down like it was this past year. For over 65 years he had been beating the drum for the men's secret society in his village. That was until civil war came to his country in West Africa causing great turmoil and suffering and forcing his family to flee the village. He was thankful for the refuge offered at the camps for displaced people, but how he missed his village.

This man now beats his drum for a new Master.

The family looking on here renounced Islam and accepted Christ!

Not only did the war cause him upheaval, but something happened to shake his belief system to the core. Like the rest of the local village and townspeople, he had grown up with a strong belief in Islam. This was the only way. He remembered how some Christians had once tried to enter the village but had been forced to leave. Their different beliefs had influenced some of the villagers. This had caused several of the wives, children and other family members to be put away because they accepted Christianity.
Now here in one of the refugee camps, the old Muslim man again encountered a group of Christians. This group showed real concern for the people in the camps. They played cassettes in the various languages spoken by the people and showed films that told of Jesus. These explained how much He loves us all and that He is the only way to God. This message must have rung true because, after listening closely, the old man laid aside the beliefs of a lifetime to follow Jesus Christ. No longer would he beat the drum for the men's secret society. He is now marching to a different drum!
. . . . .
It was last year that our Gospel Recordings Liberia staff had to flee the country because of the civil war. Nearly one in ten of the citizens were murdered and almost half of those who survived fled their homes. In January of this year, although it was safe in the capital, it was still unsafe for many from the villages to return to their homes. They stayed put in the displaced peoples camps. This gave many opportunities for Christians to share the Gospel with Muslims who previously would have chased them out of their villages.
The GR team, working with SIM International and a local evangelical church, formed an evangelism team to share Christ in several of the camps. The JESUS film was shown many times, hundreds of evangelism cassettes in many languages were distributed and the Gospel was boldly preached. There was a great openness to the Word and several thousand turned to Christ. Among these were several hundred Muslims, including the old man with the drum.
As these people return to their destroyed villages to resettle and reconstruct their houses, the challenge to the local churches is to provide follow-up teaching so that the new lives in Christ would grow strong in Him.
During this next year, an ongoing outreach to Muslims is taking place by the GR team among the Dei, Gola and Vai peoples. Pray!
