The work of the Global Recordings Network goes on all over the world, involving many thousands of people. You can be part of it, whether out and about doing recording or distribution, in our Sydney centre assembling players or copying recordings or helping with administration, or at home praying and supporting the mission.
Opportunities for service with GRN can be full time (f), part time (p), or in a voluntary capacity (v). Young workers and immigrants can gain useful work experience here, and early retirees can find a satisfying second career with us.
Many kinds of skills and interests are needed - this work is not just for "missionary" types. It's for anyone who wants to help spread the good news about Jesus.
1. Jobs with overseas or cross-cultural components
| These jobs are based from our Castle Hill office in north west Sydney, but involve travel within Sydney, short trips overseas, or extended assignment of a year or more to a GRN centre overseas. | |||
f | p | Distributors and EvangelistsWork as part of a GRN team or in partnership with other ministries to make the life giving truth of the Gospel available to those who have never heard it. This is a cross-cultural ministry and will require language acquisition. Bible College and SIL "Equip" training are minimum requirements but we can help with this.
f | p | EthnomusicologistMusic plays a significant role in communications. Using the right music and using it well can help communicate the truth of God's word very effectively.
f | p | v | Electronics & Computer SpecialistsThose with a technical bent can repair and maintain recording and computer equipment, train recordists and other technicians, provide technical support for recordists in the field, evaluate new technologies, and research and develop new products specific to our ministry. Much of this is done in our Castle Hill office, but there are also short term Tech Team Tours to maintain equipment in centres overseas, and short to medium term deployment opportunities in many of our 23 Centres. |
f | p | Field RecordistsRecordists are trained to operate recording and computer equipment to capture the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in audio form. Recordists may be called upon to travel frequently, and work in difficult and sometimes sensitive places. Bible training is a pre-requisite, but GRN provides all other training in recording techniques, linguistics and cross-cultural issues. There are opportunities in many Asian, African, Pacific and European countries.
f | p | Linguist/Language ResearcherThose with an interest in languages and linguistics can help us identify and 'target' those language groups most in need of audio gospel materials. With more than 10,000 spoken dialects in the world, the task is huge!
2. Jobs primarily based in Australia
| These jobs operate from our Castle Hill office in north west Sydney. | |||
f | p | AdministrationThe admin department provides wide-ranging support to the rest of GRN in Australia and overseas. There is a need for an Executive Secretary and/or general Office Manager to help coordinate the administrative functions, working with the National Director and existing staff and volunteers. The exact job description can be tailored to the skills and experience of the applicant. Good communication and computer skills are important.
v | AssemblersBe a part of the team that assembles the Saber hand wind MP3 player. No experience is necessary, all training is provided. Many volunteers come to work in our production facility at Castle Hill. Some give a half or full day each week. Others give up holidays to come for a week or two each year. You can pick a schedule that suits you.
f | p | v | Builder/HandymanTradespeople with skills in building, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, concreting and landscaping can help maintain and improve GRN's office and residential property. The need could be served by a full time general handyman with any of these skills, and/or part time or volunteer trade specialists. You can use your skills to help the smooth running of the mission, and reduce the cost of outside contractors. |
f | p | v | Cross Cultural MinistriesAnyone with a passion for introducing people to Jesus can work as a distributor in Australia. Prisons, detention centres and hospitals are possible locations. Many opportunities also exist to promote the use of GRN materials among ethnic and indigenous communities in Australia. If appropriate, further materials can be developed to serve the purpose of ministry among other language groups. GRN products can also be used for teaching English to migrants. |
f | p | v | Information Technology ProfessionalsGRN uses information technology extensively in processing and distributing recordings, managing data on languages, and supporting general administrative and promotional activities. We are developing a global database and communications infrastructure, which also powers our 25,000 page website. We need skilled people in any of the following technologies: PC hardware and software, Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL or other enterprise RDBMS, SQL, Delphi, C, Java, Cold Fusion, PHP, HTML, CSS. Positions could be full time, part time, or long term volunteer. Some work could be done from home. |
f | p | v | Mechanics, Fitters & Turners, Toolmakers, ElectriciansSuitably skilled people can prepare jigs for player manufacture, maintain equipment, develop new products, supervise assembly of players, and provide other technical support to the mission. Most of this work is done in our Castle Hill centre. |
f | p | v | Media SpecialistsPeople skilled in communication and/or graphic arts can create print and non-print promotional materials, do website design, and develop new audio-visual products for evangelism and Bible teaching. The role could also involve communication with the Christian press, mission deputation, writing articles, contributing to the GRN web site, presenting to other missions, and many other opportunities. |
v | PromotersAnyone can help the work of GRN by telling others about it. This can be done in churches, other missions, Bible Colleges, and one-on-one. It can also be done online through blogs, chatrooms, forums and social networking sites. Representatives are needed in every state of Australia and in New Zealand, and most work from their own homes. These are volunteer positions.
f | p | v | Sound TechniciansPeople trained in audio technologies can be involved in recording work, train recordists, edit and program new recordings, and do research and development. This overlaps and complements the work of Recordists and Electronics Technicians, but may not require travel. Additional volunteers are also needed to help process new recordings, digitize older analogue recordings, and convert recordings to new media formats. |
f | p | v | Video SpecialistGRN aims to use existing audio-visual materials to produce new video resources for evangelism and basic Bible teaching in many languages. This role involves producing new video materials, and creating "video shells" for other recordists to use to produce videos of their own recordings. The position also involves creating simple promotional videos. |
Important Notes
There are no salaried positions in GRN Australia. Members are supported through the gifts of God's people. See our financial information, and then contact us for further information.
The above notes are not a formal job description. There is flexibility in all positions and, as members of a small team, everyone needs to do 'other' things in a spirit of willing service. More detailed job descriptions are developed to suit each individual.
If you are interested in any of these ministry opportunities, or want to be involved with GRN in any way at all, contact us now! If possible, try to visit us at our head office in Sydney, and see the mission first hand.
