In August 2007 I traveled to Peru to celebrate a Wycliffe Bible dedication. This translation of the New Testament for the 350,000 Huaylas Quecha people had taken 43 years to complete. Indeed, this would be a celebration! It was a wonderful sight to see men and women receive their Bible in their own language for the first time. The tears and smiles upon the faces reflected joy and love for the Word of God.

Soon after the Bible dedication ceremony, I attended a baby dedication of the daughter of Oscar, a Quechan man and his wife Janet. This was held at Oscar's childhood home in the lovely surroundings of the Andes. Visiting, eating and celebrating this time for little Kristine was a special time for everyone.

Before we left, Oscar stood before us and thanked us for coming and gave a short testimony of how he became a Christian. He shared with us how the translating of the Quecha New Testament helped him grow and mature in the Lord. He also acknowledged that his spiritual growth from childhood began with hearing the recordings of Gospel Recordings - now Global Recordings Network (GRN).

He shared that in the 1960's recordings of Bible stories on 78 rpm records touched his heart and started his journey of faith in Jesus Christ. He then showed us those 78 rpm records. He still has them! "I never tried to memorize the stories," said Oscar, "but I just listened to them frequently when I was a child. Now, 35 years later, I still remember these stories as a result of having listened to the records so often. In one way, thanks to these stories I am now a missionary."

Both Oscar and Janet plan to play these same records for daughter Kristine to hear so that she too can learn the Bible stories. I was able to share at the gathering that my husband, Mack, was the board president of GRN. They were amazed to hear this and expressed thankfulness for Mack and the work of GRN. It was truly a blessing for all to see how the Lord works in many ways to provide the Word for His own. Together, GRN and Wycliffe Bible Translators, with the help of the Lord, can make a huge difference in the lives of even the smallest people groups who need His Word.

Julee Timm and her husband Mack are members of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Mack is also president of the GRN USA board.
