The following report from GRN workers in West Africa, gives a thrilling account of how God can work in a troubled land. While we cannot verify the number of people who responded to the Gospel message, we do ask you to pray that God will continue to work in the lives of all who heard of His redeeming grace through this outreach.
"I am grateful to God for His wonderful blessing and the breakthrough we had in the displaced camps this month. The people in the camps came from the northwestern part of Liberia.
"During our first day of outreach, we had over 5,000 watching the Jesus Film. But before we started we met an American evangelist from California. He had the same video projector but he did not have the kind of screen for a large crowd, so we all joined together that night and ministered to the people.
"The second night we showed the same Jesus Film with one Old Testament story on Joshua. We had over 11,000 people watching the films again. The 197 counsellors and 60 prayer warriors could not count all the people who accepted Christ as their Lord and Saviour. I gave the altar call (as is our custom) when the film depicted Jesus receiving the first nail in His hand. During this time, if you were in Liberia, you would see people, old and young, crying for Jesus as if He is personally before them. When I gave them the opportunity to receive Christ, over 7,000 persons put their hands up to receive Him. Since we could not meet everybody personally for counselling, we invited the people to meet us in three large churches...
"4,024 people re-dedicated their lives to the Lord. A total of 9,623 people accepted Christ, including 614 religious leaders. On Sunday May 5, 2002, 32 churches in the three camps were filled with new converts testifying to what the Jesus film had meant for them.
"On the 3rd day we went to the second largest town called Jahtondo Town. By the time we started showing the films, a long black snake suddenly appeared in the centre of the crowd. It moved so fast that we could not kill it. The crowd shouted, "Jahtondo Witchcrafts, please give us a chance to watch our Jesus Film!" After the snake went, it immediately began to rain. We usually have our rainy season in June. We quickly appealed for umbrellas from the crowd. They gave us two. One for the projector and one for the generator. After 10 minutes the rain stopped. But while it was raining the people stayed. We had a crowd of 8,000 that night. Most of the people who live in that camp are Muslims. There was no church in the camp until May 5, 2002, when that Jesus film was shown. At the end of two nights, a total of 4,867 people had accepted Christ and went to the churches for follow-up. During the first day of worship, we had 1,012 people. 531 persons who were also demon possessed were delivered.
"On the 5th day we went to our last camp. When we started the film, our amplifier started smoking. I could not find any damage but it would not work. We prayed and the Lord directed us to use the 16 mm projector that was with us. After we returned to our office, I discovered that the first projector was working fine! We had over 10,000 people that night watching the film. 2,176 gave their lives to Christ. 304 were delivered from the 'nightmen' and 'Ancestor's Covenants'. While showing the film, lots of soldiers came around smoking marijuana. I appealed to them to stop. They stopped, but to our surprise, they went into the huts of the people, looting their food and belongings so we had to close the program.
"During our outreach program, we gave leadership training for four days. We had 164 leaders. We covered the following topics: Integrity, Commitment, Christian Family, Prayer, Principles of Leadership, Evangelism and Cassette Ministry with our Gospel Recordings method of evangelism. We went door-to-door sharing the gospel by playing our recorded cassettes in 7 languages. We reached a the total of 4,310 persons. We have set up 80 'listening centres' in the three camps and distributed 4,000 recorded messages." Praise God!
