Naming Convention for Files
Understanding how DDClip deals with names is best illustrated by example.
- The name of the recording will be Aust.
NOTE: It is important to keep the name to the 8.3 convention. An example of this convention is FILENAME.EXT. You use eight characters or less for the name and three characters for the extension. In practice this could be Aust1234.wav.
- When required to give a name in the section Preparing for Recording I will use the name Aust.
- As recording takes place DDClip will allocate automatically the following names to the Clips:
Aust00.wav Aust01.wav Aust02.wav NOTE: DDClip doesn't allocate the name Aust.wav. DDClip starts allocating names adding a number at the end of the name. E.g. Aust00.wav. This feature of DDClip is very useful to us. You will see later in the example how we can use the name Aust.wav.
- If during a recording session the recording is not finished save the project. See the section on Saving a DDClip project.
- When you come back to do more recording open the project.
- When you click on the Record audio button you are required to enter a name. You can use the same name as was chosen at the beginning of the recording session. E.g. Aust.wav.
- DDClip will continue to automatically allocate the names of the Clips for you.
Aust03.wav Aust04.wav Aust05.wav - When the recording is finished you will have a number of Clips making up the recording session. These clips can be combined into one file ready for editing and programming.
- See the section Combining the Clips into one file.
- After pressing F12 you will be required to allocate a name for the file. It is at this point in the process that the name Aust.wav can be used. This will now become the name of the combined file. This is the file that you will open in FastEdit for editing.
