Challenge and opportunity for Bible translation

Last month I spent 10 days in Papua New Guinea. While there I had the privilege of joining with some SIL and Wycliffe Bible Translators colleagues in celebrating the completion of another New Testament in one of the many languages of PNG (IMPILI).

I was inspired by the dedication of Bible translators and grateful to God that yet another people group has Scriptures in their own language. I was also reminded of how much Bible translation there is yet to be done in PNG and how many people there who don't read! In many languages the only written materials are Scripture portions! Consequently there is not much incentive to learn to read!

Bible translation is an important work, but just as important is enabling people to hear God's word in their own tongue. Sometimes this is best done through recorded Scripture and sometimes, especially where there is no translation, by recording Bible stories or songs!

GRN is privileged to work in partnership with SIL/WBT in order to make God's word available. Early signs are that the SABER player will be a great tool for translators as they prepare and check translations in the field. It will also be a useful means of delivering the finished 'product' to those who prefer to listen rather than read.

Please pray for all who are engaged in making God's word available and understandable to the people of this world. It is the Word of God that brings new life (1 Peter 1:23-25).

Yours for those still waiting to hear!
