A literacy based approach to evangelism and Bible teaching in a predominantly oral societies at best can only have limited results. Although some will learn, a literacy approach restricts the potential number of learners and severely restricts the number of potential teachers. It runs the risk of using learning strategies inappropriate to the local culture and potentially undermines the oral communication skills of the local people that have been effective methods of learning and teaching for generations. It superimposes a 'left-brain', sequential cognitive process on a people that are predominantly right brain and intuitive.
