Are you afraid? What makes you afraid? Do you fear the words of other people? Are you worried about the sicknesses which may come to your family? Do thoughts of dying frighten you? I want to tell you about Someone who can take away all your fears and give you wonderful peace. His name is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is God's only Son, who many years ago left heaven and came to this earth because He loved us. He came to earth so that He might die in our place. We deserved to die for our sins. But Jesus took our place, and through His death made a way for us to have forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
Jesus accomplished something else through His death. Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the devil. God is not the author of fear, but of peace and love. All of our fears come from Satan, but through the power of Jesus, we can have freedom and victory over these fears. He said "That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." (Heb. 2:14,15. After Jesus had been in the grave three days, He arose from the dead. When He came from the grave He had power over death and was victor over all the powers of the evil one. He said to His followers, "Fear not...all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (Matt. 28:18).
SONG: "I'm a great sinner and full of fear
So often the voice of the tempter I hear
Lead me and help me to full victory.
Come and possess me, O Living Flame
Forever in my heart I'll praise Thy name
Live within me, Lord Jesus."

You all know what an HYENA is.
Well, once upon a time an hyena came out at night in search of food. It was not long before he smelled some fish near the river. So he went to look for it. But before he reached it, he smelled some meat on another path. He thought that would taste good. So he left the path to the fish and followed the path to the meat. Then he decided that the fish would surely taste better. But he had not gone far on the path to the fish before he thought of the meat again. He did so want both the meat and the fish.
So he made a plan. He put his two left legs on the left side path, and his two right legs on the right hand path. Then he started to walk until his legs stretched further and further apart. And then suddenly, his whole body split from the head down to the tail. (NATIVE FOLK LORE).
GOD had an only Son whose name was Jesus. He came to this earth to save us from death. He taught us that there are two paths on which a man can walk. One leads to death, and the other leads to eternal life. All those who love their sin are walking on the path that leads to death for God says "The soul that sinneth it shall die." But God loves the sinner and it is not His will that any should perish. He loves the sinner so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die instead of the sinner. By His death, Jesus made a new way that leads to eternal life. He said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." If you really would like eternal life, come to Him - confess your sin, and He will set your feet on this new path. And on God's way there can be no death.
Perhaps some of you, like the hyena, are hoping you may be able to walk on BOTH paths. You love your sin, and yet you also want eternal life. You must choose either Life, or Death. Will you not today confess your sin to Jesus? He will pardon you, and cleanse you of your sin. He will give you joy, and eternal life.
I am going to sing you a chorus. These are the Words of God: "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life".
God speaks to us about sin, death and eternal life. God says that all have sinned, and you know that you are a sinner. He is a Holy God, and He cannot look upon sin. God hates sin, therefore He must punish sin and the sinner. If you remain in your sin, you must die because the wages of sin is death, and after death God will have to punish you for your sin. Surely you are afraid to die. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
But God loved you so much that He sent His only Son to die in your place. Jesus received your punishment. Through His death you may receive eternal life. How may you receive eternal life? It is a free gift from God to all who receive the Lord Jesus into their hearts by confessing their sin to Him. By His blood, He can wash away every sin, and deliver you from death. Nothing that you can do will buy this eternal life. It is a free gift from God. You must accept it from God and thank Him. There is nobody who would refuse a gift.
What about you, my brother? Why do you refuse God's gift? Receive the gift of God from Him who loves you, and sent His Son to die for you on the cross.
In Him only you have eternal life. Today, hear His words - do not harden your hearts.
