Title ideas:Jesus told a story about a kind foreigner [to illustrate how people should love each other].Love each other.Love your enemies.

Scribes were [educated / literate] men who taught to people the Jews’ laws. One day a scribe wanted to ask Jesus a difficult question.

He asked, “What must I do to receive [inherit / obtain] everlasting life?

Jesus replied with two questions: “What does God’s [Jewish] law say?

The Scribe [man] replied, “The law says: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and Love your neighbors [people around you / fellows /others] as you love yourself!”

Jesus said, “Yes! If you will do as you have said [read], then you will live forever!”

But the scribe wanted to make himself seem to be a better man than he was, so he asked Jesus, “Who are my neighbors?”

Jesus replied by telling a [teaching / picture] story. He said, “[There was once] a Jewish man [who] was traveling from Jerusalem city to another town.

“At a lonely place [on the road], robbers were hiding [lying in wait]. When they saw the man coming, they pounced on the man, beat him terribly, took everything he had, and left him lying on the road! He was almost dead!

“After a while, a Jewish priest [religious leader] came along that same road! When he saw the beaten man lying there on the road, [instead of helping the man] he went to the other side of the road and walked on by.

“Later, a Jewish Levite [religious worker] came along that same road! When he saw the man lying on the road, [instead of helping the man] he also walked to the other side of the road and passed him by.

“Lastly, a Samaritan [Tribe] man [a foreigner whom the Jews despised] came along that same road! When he saw the man lying on the road, he felt compassion for [him] the man! So he stopped, poured medicine [oil and wine] on his wounds, and bandaged them!

“Next, he lifted the wounded man onto his donkey [pack animal], and carried him to a guest room [an inn / a rented room] where he cared for the man through the night.

“Next morning, the Samaritan [Tribe] man left some money with the room manager [innkeeper / clinic boss], saying, “Please care for this man. If it costs you more than this money, then I shall pay you more when I come back this way.”

Jesus finished his story, and then asked the scribe, “Which of those three men showed himself [to be] a neighbor [fellow] to the injured man?”

The scribe replied, “The man who showed mercy [kindness] was a good neighbor!”So Jesus said to him, “Go do to others the same kinds of actions [in the same manner] as the kind man!”
