There is a season for everything. There is a time to take hold and a time to let go. In terms of leadership, the time is approaching when I believe that it is my time to let go. Having been at the helm here for close to 20 years, I recently informed my Board that by early next year it would be time for me to step aside from being director. It is with a sense of sadness that I did this knowing that it has been a great privilege and a joy to serve in the leadership role of such a strategic ministry. Whatever the Lord has been pleased to accomplish during my time as director has most definitely been by His grace and enabling.
I believe that the time is now right for a new leader to step up to the plate; someone who will bring new skills and fresh energy to leading the work. Two things are key: the leader needs to be called of God and anointed by Him for this role. He also needs to embrace fully the ministry vision to tell the story of Jesus in every language and be faithful to fulfill that vision!
Please pray with us that God would grant the Board all the wisdom it needs to find the right person who by God's grace will take the work forward. A multitude of unreached peoples still await their first hearing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The work needs to stay focused in its quest to go to them. We never want to lose our pioneer edge. As long as there are least-reached peoples, they must remain our priority. I know from my own experience that there is always a myriad of good things that can easily keep us from doing the best thing. It is important to avoid being distracted by the things that might keep us from doing what God really wants us to do.
For my wife Patti and me, we plan to continue on as missionaries with GRN with me fitting into a new and supportive role yet to be determined. There is still much work for GRN to do to declare His glory among the nations. If we can still be useful, then we would love to work for as long as the Lord gives us strength. Our commitment when we first met was to serve the Lord and this commitment never had an expiration date.
