In Madagascar 80% of the population is animist, practicing witchcraft and ancestral worship. 44.6% of the traditional Christians believe in ancestral worship. Only 7% of the population are evangelical Christians.
GRN joined forces with Madagascar Mission to reach Madagascar for Jesus, by supplying them with follow-up tools for the young churches being planted in remote areas. Dinah Ratsimbajaona, coordinator of the work of Madagascar Mission, aim to place at least one set of evangelism teaching materials in every village where a church has been planted; and the material is in the MALAGASY language!
Here follows an extract from one of Dinah's letters to us:
"...thank you so much for your support, I received the parcel 5 sets of books and tapes sponsored by the lady in Pretoria. These are going to the local newly planted churches around Antananarivo. The sets that I received before are sent to the south for the Bara people and to the eastern rain forest where the Betsimisaraka people live. I desperately need 50 sets with the Messenger hand wind player, because every 6 months we train local evangelists and pastors going to the remote places around the island for 2 to 3 month to reach the unreached and they need these 50 sets. They are already on the field; they need the materials.
"We also need 30 sets with Messenger for the churches that we already planted in the rain forest using helicopter as transport. Each church has 75-250 members and most of them can't read. These materials will be helpful for the pastors.
"We have a Pastor School in Antananarivo too - most of the students are from the rain forest and every 3 months we sent 12 new pastors back to the rain forest. So I need 12 sets with the Messenger every 3 months for the newly trained pastors.
"As you know, we have 500 churches around Ma/car; people need to be trained and these material are very good to start with. I need 1 set for each church.
"Please help and support me to raise these sets; God wants to bless this Island."
You can be a part of this great effort by adopting a newly planted church through your sponsorship of one set of audio-visual teaching materials to use in their cell group meetings, Sunday school and worship services.
One set of materials, including the Messenger cassette player costs R770.20 or $110(US) includes:
- 1x Messenger cassette player
- 1x 8 Flipchart (A3) picture books
- 1x 8 MALAGASY cassette commentaries
- 1x Good News Backpack (protection for flipchart books)
