That's a Good Question! - by Allan Starling
As I look around our office, I see a wide variety of individuals with an even wider range of skills and backgrounds. None of them looks like a missionary, but that is what they are! In one sense, that is more important than what they do. So let's start there. To work at GRN you must be:
- A born again Christian - this job is all about God's kingdom.
- Called of God - otherwise you won't last!
- Humble - because God doesn't use proud people.
- A team player - because we all depend on each other.
- Available and willing - and if you have a few skills, all the better!
I made a list of the various tasks which are performed here on a daily basis and divided it by the number of people who are involved. If I did the math correctly, it shows clearly that many of us are wearing two or three hats. Some of the hats are easily noticeable while others almost fade into the background. But they would all fit better if there were only one per head.
In addition to our missionary members who work full-time in Temecula, we have volunteers who come in one or more days a week. Some members go on overseas assignments while others represent the work throughout the USA.
Whatever we do, each of us is focused on one objective-to make it possible for others to hear the good news in their own languages. We'll look closer at some of these jobs next time.
Allan Starling wears at least two hats as USA Deputy Assistant Executive Director and Language Tracking Director
