LRI Kenya in brief

Boaz Inyama, recordist and technician, talks about his work with Language Recordings Int in Kenya

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share with you a few things from Kenya.

I joined LRI in 1981 immediately after graduating from Moffat Bible College Kijabe Kenya. I left six years later to join PRM (Portable Recording Ministries) in Nairobi, where I stayed for 18 years as a recordist. After PRM closed its operations in Nairobi is when I moved back to LRI as a recordist.

My wife Beatrice trained at the same Bible College where I went. She joined LRI in 1982 immediately after graduation. That was the same year we got married. We are blessed with a son whose name is James. He is now 22 years old. Then we have two daughters. Ritha and Mercy are now 21 and 19 respectively. James has completed his college training in Electronics Engineering. He is looking for a job. Ritha has also completed her Hotel Management training. She is also looking for a job. Mercy has just joined Nairobi University. She is taking Library and Information Studies.

LRI has been operating in Nairobi for the last 28 years. Right now we are only 4 people running the office. Winston Omenya - Director, Beatrice Inyama - Accounts/Administration, Vincent Owvor - Volunteer (Promotion/Distribution), Boaz Inyama - Recordist/Technician. We are operating from a rented two bedroomed flat based at Branton Court, Adams Arcade of Ngong Road.

Some of the challenges are:

  1. Lack of Recording Equipment
  2. Adequate Staff
  3. Transport Facility
  4. High Rent

As we grow up, we pray that the office in Nairobi will become more self sustaining. Right now, we depend on outside funding. Pray that the Lord will raise more willing nationals to join the ministry, both in prayer and material support.

As we serve Kenya, we also have a burden of reaching out to our neighbours like Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. We get requests from these countries, but due to limited resources, we are unable to fulfil them.

However, we try our best to supply the little we have to these countries. Right now, we have requests to record in Tanzania, Sudan and Muslim inhabited areas of Kenya.

Right now as I speak, there are many Messengers and Tape Talks awaiting repairs. And just to confirm what I am saying, I just received an email from Winston in Nairobi this morning and it says in part, "Already we are missing because there are two missionaries who have come requiring repairs; but we shall hold on."

Prayer Items

  • Pray for Winston as he foresees the work in Kenya that God may give him wisdom and courage.
  • Pray that LRI will be able to secure a place of its own in Nairobi to eliminate the issue of high rent.
  • Thank God that the government has granted the freedom of worship and evangelism in Kenya.
  • Thank God that He was able to provide a place for Mercy at Nairobi University. It is usually hard to secure a place at that university. Pray that God will provide her school fees for the next five years.
