About Nepal
Sandwiched between two Asian giants, China and India, Nepal traditionally has been characterized as "a yam caught between two rocks".
Nepal is very mountainous. It is known as the roof of the world, with Mt. Everest at 8,848 metres being the tallest mountain in the world. Nepal is slightly larger than Bangladesh or two thirds the size of Victoria. It is a landlocked country, surrounded by India on three sides and by China (Tibet) to the north.
The country is divided into three broad areas: the Mountain Region, the Hill Region and the lowland Tarai.
Nepal was formerly the world's only constitutionally declared Hindu state, but following the movement for democracy in early 2006 and the breaking of King Gyanendra's power, the Nepali Parliament amended the constitution to make Nepal a secular state.
90% of Nepalese are Hindu and the rest are Buddhist, Muslim or adhere to other religions. Life for Christians is hard. They suffer under hostility, discrimination and sometimes violence because of their faith. Christians make up barely 3% of the population. Even though they often face daily intimidation, God is moving and expanding His kingdom in this country. Churches are growing very fast and many people are coming to know the truth of Jesus Christ every day.
GRN Nepal
Global/Gospel Recordings Network Nepal was established in 1982. Since then this mission has been serving in Nepal to produce many recordings of the Gospel message in the different languages and dialects.
According to our records there are 145 different languages and dialects within this small country.
GRN Nepal has already produced Gospel recordings in over 100 different languages and dialects. Our work never ends. We endeavour to produce different materials in each language, for example, Bible stories, parables, indigenous songs, testimonies and Bible teaching materials.
The GRN Nepal staff are Barnabas & Radhika Shrestha, Surendra & Kalpana Shrestha, Asim Rai, Dipak Jirel, Niranjan Sharma and Raj Singh.
Responses to the gospel in Nepal
Pastor S. T. and Pastor B. L. Bhandara
"We went on a 'Gospel trip' on 2060/1/14 (Nepali calendar) in Korakh VDC, Khahare, Chitwan. We shared the Gospel and basic knowledge about farming, and distribute seeds to the people. Most of the people were Tamang and Praja.
"By sharing the Gospel in their own languages, we have started a fellowship there, and 7 house-holds (20-22 people) had the opportunity to accept Christ. Also in another ward recently: 7 in Korakh village and 5 families have accepted Jesus. We are very thankful to GR for providing the Player and seeds for us."
A. T. Thakaltar, Chitwan
"Thank you and may God bless G.R Nepal, Kathmandu!
"I would like to inform you that recently 21 people were saved spiritually. Your players are being really helpful for sharing the Gospel.
"My village is in the hill area. Three fellowships have already started and still the Gospel program is going on here. There are still so many unreached villages, so that player is needed. We would be thankful if you allow us to use that player for a longer time. In fact, we are in need of more players."
Pastor A. L. P. Makawanpur
"We of the Tangrang church, would like to say thank you from our heart. Thanks for providing Gospel messages in different languages to us. In the year 2059 B.S., by using the player, we were able to touch a minimum of 50 people spiritually. Because of this, we have started fellowships in 5 different places.
Altogether, 200 new believers are in these fellowships. For this, again we like to give thanks, with our prayers for the GR family."
Brother Udash Rai, Believers Church
"God is changing people's lives by using audio Gospel tapes played on the cassette player which I got from you. I am thankful to God and all of you.
"Last month, after listening to the Gospel, 12 people in Siraha, 9 in Saptari, 5 in Udaypur and 3 in Dhanusha, believed in Christ. I want to request your prayers for these new believers.
"I am planning to share the Gospel, using the GRN materials and players, with each household and every person in the Siraha municipality. Also I am aiming to organize a Gospel conference. I request that you ask God's Holy Spirit to help us in this program and that lots of people may come to know Christ."
Pastor B T, Chitwan
"Gospel tapes, provided by GR Nepal, led 15 PRAJA people and 10 THARU people to accept Christ. (9 of them were Tamang and Brahmans.)
"By using Gospel tapes and the hand wind cassette player over a period of 5 months, 34 people came into the kingdom of Jesus Christ! We are so glad and were encouraged by how God is blessing in our church. Our fellowship is growing day by day.
"Many, many thanks to the workers of GR Nepal. May God bless all of you there."
From Ghanash, GRN volunteer, East Nepal
"Praise God for successful GRN ministry in east Nepal. From January 2nd to 15th (2008), I was in a remote village training people in evangelism. I found 9 evangelists there who were using the hand wind cassette players and cassettes to share the Gospel and win more souls to Christ. The new believers were also being discipled and brought into the local church. The evangelists were thankful to God and to GRN for all that is happening.
"During the 4 day walk to the village there was nowhere to wash or even brush our hair! But we were so glad to meet with the simple village believers and were encouraged by their commitment to God. Out here living is very difficult and there is little help for the believers but they are committed and living their life as true Christians because their only hope is in Christ.
"More people in the village want hand wind cassette players and tapes to help them in their outreach and teaching. Pray for me that I may be able to help them as the Lord enables."
