Script Text

Solomon declared: "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool." And Job said: "Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Nobody." Can the egg of a hawk produce a dove? Can a thornbush bring forth grapes? Never! Neither can there spring from the natural heart of man, perfectly holy work, real peace, or the sweet assurance of God's favor. The natural heart is too corrupt and sinful to yield such blessings. Do you doubt it? If so, ask yourself whether you could look your fellows in the face and possess peace of heart, if all your hidden thoughts throughout life were to be written on your forehead. If you would be ashamed to face your fellowmen with such a record, how will you face a perfectly just and holy God?

Unlike men, God is perfect in every way. He is perfect in all His attributes. He is perfect in His holiness. He is perfect in His mercy and compassion. Could perfect justice overlook sin? Could perfect holiness allow one, uncleansed, in God's presence? Never! Thus for one sin Adam and Eve were sent away from the presence of God. What about ourselves? Solomon declared: "God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. God is the one who is Truth, and will certainly fulfill His word. Every person must stand before God on the day of judgment. Every sin must be dealt with in perfect justice. In the Gospel it is written, "The wages of sin is death." Death not only for the body but for the soul. This kind of death means separation from God.

But God's love has made a way for us to escape this eternal death. In His loving kindness, God sent Jesus Christ, that He might become our representative and die on our behalf to bear away our guilt. He came to die on the wooden cross so that sin could be judged in His own body, and so that we might be forgiven with justice.

Those who repent of their sins and place their confidence in Jesus, (the Messiah) (our Mediator), and His sacrifice, can take His own word: "Truly, truly I say unto you, He that heareth my word and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life." The Lord Jesus lives today in the presence of God, and will save you from the eternal death of your soul if you will trust Him now.

Prov. 28:26; Job 14:4; Eccl. 24:4; Rom. 6:23; John 5:24
