Using the Saber in PNG: Feedback from Papua New Guinea on the Saber player

Papua New Guinea: The people who make up the 900+ language groups of PNG are predominantly oral communicators.

PNG Post Script: Project Milne Bay... the story continues: Since the project was launched in 2006 Sybil Shaw has been to Milne Bay three times, and made dozens of recorings in 14 languages. Here are some stories.

Progress in PNG: Sybil Shaw has recently returned from a recording trip in Milne bay. She also shared with SIL in the VITAL translators course and dedication of the AUHELAWA New Testament.

Old Recordings in UBIR: "We have played our CD and all the people heard it. Most of the people could recognize the readers' voices."

Let's Go Wokabaut: "We were constantly shown the generosity, love and humility of the local people - giving up their homes for us; cooking for us; people running out of their homes to give us pineapples and pawpaw..."

Wokabaut '06: "People were very thrilled to have some oral Bible teaching from the Old Testament in their own language. They are now understanding more of the stories and their applications."

GRN Ministry among the Wantoat People: Church leaders huddled around as Pastor Nickson cranked the hand-wound cassette player. Their attention was rapt. After listening for a while they said things like, "Wow! This is true Wantoat language. Today our people mix Wantoat with other languages, and it isn't very clear. But these stories go deep and pull out the true meaning."
