I had a great time in the UK spending time with Mum and Dad this February. I enjoyed seeing lots of people in a short time but was constantly thinking about my own family. As you know a lot of things happened to them while I was in the UK . Callum is doing well and talks about John (the classmate that died). Erin is well and healthy and so is Jenny. They all looked tired and thin when I returned as they all had a terrible bug but now they are all full of energy and fit.
Callum is doing well at school and he has made good friends in his class. Erin is enjoying school and doing well.
Jenny has started teaching the staff English twice a week at the office which involves her more. Everyone seems to be having fun. We started a monthly worship time at the office, which Jenny leads and these times have been a great encouragement. Jenny has also started playing drums at church in the worship team. Please continue to pray for her as she is having a great influence on so many people. Kiddybear (the pre-school) has moved to a new location. Please continue to pray for the Principle that she and the staff will come to know Jesus.
The tsunami took most of our time in January, with Jon and Lot going down to Phket to the Urak lawoi community (sea gypsies). Some people from this group had helped us do recordings in September last year during the RTC. Their community was destroyed and so needed help to build and repair boats and houses. Marlow CF gave a large gift and other individuals also gave gifts. These gifts have been used and another trip is planned later this month and when Barry and Joy (and Mum) come out in June we plan to go down to show them where the money has been used. This project is ongoing. Please continue to pray for the Pastors that oversee the allocation of money that they will make wise decisions and be above reproach in all their dealings.
We are still waiting for the officials to approve our Foundation (Sounds of Language). We hope that our lawyer will have good news for us soon. When we are approved we can then apply for visas under the foundation. Please pray for wisdom in planning projects for Joshua, K and myself who need visas.
The China/Mongolian recordings will take place later in the year as the contact originally dealing with the project has handed it over to a colleague who has a different timetable. As for Mongolian recording, the scripts are being translated and it looks like I will have use of the FEBC Radio (Wind FM) studios in which to do it. Please continue to pray that I can still combine the two recordings in one trip.
Lot and I are currently researching the Ugong (or Lawa) language. In Thailand it is estimated that there is a population of 100 to 1000 people. Most people I have talked to reckon it is closer to 100. It is classed as an endangered language. Please pray that we can find these people so that we can record in this language.
The Asian Regional meetings took place (17th-22nd March) here in Chiang Mai and it was good to meet the directors that we had never met and to catch up with one that we did know. The meetings seemed to have gone well and it was reported that it was a very encouraging time.
The Radio station is still going well and keeping me busy. Tom (a Thai co host) is going away for 6 months and Rebecca (Australian) is leaving for good, so I have asked Jaew from our office to join me on the show. She has been once and plans to come next week. It is Thai New Year at present and the show has been stopped for special government programmes.
I will be attending the Partnership fair held here in Chiang Mai, 25th-26th of this month. Please pray that this will be a fruitful time for the future of our work in SEA
We really appreciate all your prayers. We are praying for each one of you.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for supporting us here in Chiang Mai
David, Jenny, Callum and Erin
