Ruth Elliott tells of her experiences on a recent short term trip to Mexico with the team from GRN Canada
Our team arrived at the airport only to find out that our flight was cancelled. The team prayed that God would find a way for us to get to San Diego, where we would get our vans to drive into Mexico. God worked things out and eleven hours later we were on our way.
A typical day on our mission trip began with our team driving to migrant farm camps about an hour away. We conducted a Bible club in two small camps each morning. We developed friendships with the children and each day we played with them, sang songs, did a craft and had a Bible story with the children. We returned to our base camp for lunch.
In the afternoons we would travel to other camps where we did outreach door to door. Mexican Christians from local churches did the speaking while we assisted them. We found out what language each family spoke as there are 300 different languages in Mexico. At night we made Gospel message cassettes for each family in their language.
The following day we took the cassettes back to the camp and distributed them to each family. We could see the joy on the peoples faces as they received the cassette.
I will never forget the experiences I had while in Mexico and the people that I met there. I really felt God's presence amongst the team during this time. How wonderful it was to be able to serve God in this way.
