The state of Arunachal Pradesh is known as the land of the dawn lit mountains. It is a bit of paradise right at the top of northeastern India. Encircled on three sides by China, Myanmar and Bhutan, it stretches from the snowcapped mountains in the north to the plains of the Brahmaputra valley in the south. The wooded forests and meandering streams offer cooling tranquility and scenic beauties where every morning the sunrise spreads its golden carpet. Once described as the Hidden Land it has now opened its doors to outsiders.
Arunachal Pradesh is endowed with wonderful people who are the simplest of the simple and the humblest of the humble with great virtues and honesty. Moreover, the hospitality of the Arunachalis makes the state a peaceful place for visitors.
There are 23 major languages spoken in Arunachal with over 30 dialects. GRN has made recordings in 17 of the languages and several dialects. One of the main languages we are targeting is Tangsa. The Tangsas originally migrated from southwest China through Burma and then settled in this region in the beginning of the 13th century. The people are divided into more than 21 sub-tribes each with its own dialect (listed at the right).
There is a dearth of Christian resources among the group. There is only a New Testament and a hymn book published in just one of the dialects. GRN aims to make recordings in each of the dialects so that people will have access to some basic knowledge about God and salvation. This is a challenging job which will require months of hard work. But we are prepared to meet the challenge to bring the word of God to these wonderful people of Arunachal Pradesh.
We are making progress also in the Khamti and Zakhring languages. Three people from Khamti plan to come to Siliguri to record Bible stories in their language. There is not a single Christian in the group so far. We are asking the Lord to use the recordings to bring many people into His Kingdom in the coming months. Zakhring is another Buddhist group who are strongly opposed to the gospel. There is not a single known Christian in the group also. They number 600-700 only. We have been facing enormous spiritual oppositions lately as we pray for these two people groups to know Christ soon.
Please pray for us!
